TA Adjustment on 1066?

I have a '76 Black Stripe 1066, my only International tractor, and it's been a very good one. I was raised on JD, but have never had any regrets in buying this tractor. I think the TA has been replaced twice in the 5753 actual hours that are on the tractor, once by me, and once by the original owner. The problem I'm having now, is the TA engages and pulls strong, in either high or low range, but it will not stay up in high range by itself, without something holding the lever. I was told and taught by the original owner, that it's important when shifting the TA, either way, to snap that lever and not feather it. I've always done so, and told others running the tractor to do the same. But now when I snap it from low to high, it seems to shift and pull fine, but as soon as you turn the lever loose, it slowly feathers itself back into low range. Is there some adjustment that can be made to fix this, or am I seeing the beginning of the TA failing again? Just thought I'd pick the brains of the IHC guru's here to find out what I'm in for. Thanks!!

Hey!

I'm a flatter too; born and raised down there on the flats.

Anyhoo, check that big pivot bolt down under the cab/left side. They have a habit of working loose and walking out.

If the bolt falls completely out, there is no shift from one side to another.

At the upper end of the Rod that Allan was talking about there is a spring that goes over center on the handle pivot that is supposed to apply pressure to keep the handle in either the high or low position.

Thanks Guys, I'll check out both of those things today. I also did a search of the site, with like 713 returns on TA problems, and am learning a lot I didn't know about keeping both the main and TA clutches adjusted properly and regularly. I need to dig the operators manual out of the drawer in the shop and do some studying and adjusting. And Allan, I've read a lot of your very knowledgeable posts on here, and thought of you. Now I just have to ask, Allan T. or Allan C.? I've been a lurker on this site for quite a while, finally signed up, with a handle and such, just a week ago. Lots of stuff to learn and share here. Thanks again!!
