Just a Ring job?

Good evening again everyone. I just aquired another, yes another M and it was slightly stuck from setting inside so long. It wasn"t hard to get it unstuck at all, a gentle rock and it was free, started her right up and it smokes a little. i know the sleeve is scored or a ring(s) broke. can i sneak by with just a ring and sleeve job or should i go for it all bearings and all? It don"t bother me as is, just don"t like that smoke in my face ha ha. Have a good evening all - Ted

The smoking might subside after it is run awhile. My H was stuck and it initially smoked, but is fine now.

I got a cub gav to me awile back an thay said it had been stuk smoked when I got her home and the more I run her the less she smoke. Now she dont smoke at all. But if you brokea ring thats anoter sory.

I agree with most of what has been posted so far. I would take the plugs out, and put some of your favorite "snake oil" into each cylinder (ie. blaster, Kroil, marvel mystery oil, ATF, kerosense, diesel, and on, and on) and let it sit for 1-2 days. Crank it over a bit after the 2 days, and then put the plugs in. Fire it up, and run it getting it up to temp, and keep running it. I think you will find that the rings free up, and you may not have as much "wrong" as you think you do.

Key here is to get it up to temp, and then work it if you can. Rings can stick on engines that sit that are not stuck.

As always IMHO.
