Talking about the 44 and the H

I plan to replace the last two leaking seals on the H this winter. I just parked it in the gravel this summer so it would not bother me as much. I went through all the other seals last winter. The 44 was in much worse shape than the H. I am buying custom domed pistons for it because performance parts are not available for the MH like the farmalls. The H does not smoke or use oil, so it does not make sense to go through the engine yet.

I just replaced the seal on my H's PTO. It was super easy. My belt pulley was leaking as well, but at the shims. So, I'm trying to reseal it up at the shim area.

Where is your belt pulley leaking?

If the tractor is holding decent oil pressure, not using any oil to speak of, and is doing what you need it to, then there is no real good reason for to spend the money to rebuild it.

Once it starts to lose oil pressure, or keep gumming up plugs from burning of oil, or can perform the duties it used to do or should do, THEN look at tearing into it. Putting a few quarts of oil into it thru the season is much cheaper than an engine rebuild.

Does one rebuild their car engine, just because?

My 3 cents (adjusted for inflation)
