Charlynn install pictures?

I am putting powersteering on my H. I need some photos of how the torque generator mounts up to the steering support by the oil and temp gauges. I have heard that I need a "wedge adapter" to mount it to the support. OEM sells a new gauge bracket for the H and M for the power steering setup, but it does not look like it will work on my H. Has anybody used that one? I searched for the old posts by Allen in NE and StevenND, but the pictues are gone.

Also how much does a rebuilt live hydraulic pump cost? I'm looking at a used unit off a 300 or 350 at the salvage yard. they want $400 for it.

thanks for the help.

Can't help you with the power steering but a brand new live pump will run between $500 and $600. I would not mess with a used one as its hard to tell the internal condition without tearing them down. Same with the rebuilts, pretty hard to replace worn aluminum in the housing so you don't know how long they will last. Another thing your H will need a Super H,300,350 front engine cover and cam gear to be able to mount the live pump.

you will need that adapter to mount the torque generator. it is stamped at the correct angle to line the steering shaft up. there is also a coupler that goes on the torque generator and connects to the steering shaft that runs to the front bolster. you need to cut a section out of the steering shaft so the torque unit will fit in there. then you drill a new hole in the steering shaft and drive a roll pin in there, pretty sure the pin has a second pin driven inside it for added strength. if you want some pictures, drop me an e mail, i can get some photos this weekend of the charlynn pumps on my h and m's

The Char-Lynn wedge is available for around $65, check with steelwheelranch.com

I had my wedge adapter made by a machine shop for $15. I took them the torque generator and the measurements of the thin and thick side of the adapter - thin is 0.085", thick edge is 0.722", it is 3.135" diameter, and the shoulder is cut to a depth of 0.160"

*These measurements are from someone else, I did not measure my custom machined wedge. Also, the holes for the torque generator are different on mine so the hydraulic line hook-ups are oriented where I want them.

Hope this helps!

I have a salvage 300 that has everything you will need if you are interested in the parts and pump to change it over.

The H uses the original gauge plate along with the adaptor and you have to drill the mounting holes in your plate.

You've really got to eyeball that wedge and make sure it is mounted so that the torque motor shaft will align with the hole in the radiator for the steering shaft. Get it wrong and that front shaft will bind up going thru the radiator.

It's "wacky" and ends up being about 5 to 10 degrees off from "straight up and down".

Also, be careful when you shorten your steering shaft allowing for the motor and those trunions. Again, the measurements have to be just about right on.

(quoted from post at 18:29:46 09/12/07) I have a salvage 300 that has everything you will need if you are interested in the parts and pump to change it over.

Where are you located? I'm in MN...

I would like to see some photos of your mount for the charlyn mount near the gauges. I bought what was supposed to be a complete system that came off a M. When I received the shipment everything was there. but when I mounted everything on the tractor it all worked but the hood would not fit. I feel like there is a better mount for the ps motor near the gauges so the hood will fit. I looked at steelwheelranch but could not tell much from the photos. Any help you could give would be appreciated. James
