Hello Folks; With my Farmall "C" when I slow the engine speed, the PTO speed decreases also. I guess this should happen but, as all of you know, this slows the implement. Is there anything I can do to keep the PTO speed at a steady 540rpm. Thanks in advance!!

Nothin' but full throttle, bud. Nature of the beast.

Don't know what yu're attempting but few, if any, gear-driven tractors without further reduction gears are geared for slow, over the ground PTO driven work like roto-tilling and heavy bush-hogging.

Yep. In the spring around here, we get a lot of questions about slowing down the old girls to pull a rototiller. Ain't happenin', even in 1st. That's work for something with a hydro or more than a single gear range.

Dependin' on what you're cuttin', can ya slog your way through it all on the first pass just to open it up and then take smaller bites on the rest?

Hey Scotty! I do kinda get what I can, but not really satisfied with the end product. The "C" is a narrow front end type. After the front and rear tires pass through and knock down the tall weeds and grass (mostly tall weeds;4 to 5 foot high) there is not much remaining upright to cut.I do not get much upward draft to lift what has been knocked down. Thanks for your thoughts!
