Super C kills with light switch..?

My super C runs great...until I turn on the light switch. Then it sputters and dies. Turn the switch off and it starts right up again. Why would this be?

Sounds an awful lot like a short somewhere along the wires between the lights and the output side of the switch.

Turning on the lite sw should not stop the tractor. If there was a "SHORT" the fuse would blow. Better check the wiring to see where the trouble is as something is not wired correct.

My M did the same thing!

The light wire was exposed inside the tube and slightly shorted as it shook inside the tube till it took the voltage away enough to cause the tractor to stall!!

I put some Lqulid Tape on it !

Problem Sloved!!!

I had a somewhat similar problem with my Super H only it ran better with the lights ON. Quick solution was to run with the lights on. However when I shut the tractor down the lights stayed lit despite the light knob being set to OFF(!)

Problem turned out to be inside the ammeter box. The supply wire from the regulator L terminal to the ignition switch's hot terminal was rubbing the (uninsulated) light switch dimmer coil.

Using the lights on dim had apparently caused the dimmer coil to heat up and burn through the supply wire insulation and it shorted to the dimmer coil. This caused the lights to burn even with the light switch set at "O".

Replacing the shorted wire, then cleaning up wire routing inside the box to keep everything away from the dimmer coil solved the problem.
