Can this hyd cyl be taken apart?

Im wondering if this IH hyd cyl can be taken apart to put in a new O ring and if so...how? I thought the end cap would screw off as it looks to be made for a wrench. It is a 3" x 8" from an IH cornplanter. Thank you.

This looks like the kind that has a ring that you wind out. Check to see if there is a small opening about a 1/4 inch from the top, with a small screwdriver reach in and work out the end of the ring, turn the head until it is completely out. Then you can pull out the head and replace needed parts.

Yes I think there is a small slot about a 1/4" down from the top. That is what I was wondering as it looked like that was what it was there for. I will give it a try. Thank you.

Got the ring out, now if I can get the cap off. Looks like the O ring is hanging up in the groove. Ill have to try it again tomorrow.

Go down in that same slot and get hold of the o-ring and pull it out also. Snap ring groove is square on outer side and tapered for installation of new 0-ring on reassembly.

Finally got it apart. I ended up using a come-along on it to pull it apart. There was some rust in the bore where the cap sits. About 1/3 of the main O ring was deteriorated and very brittle. Thank you for your replies.
