tire size for #8 IH plow

my son (12 years old) made his first farm sale purchase, he bought a #8 2-16 plow with factory rubber tires, I know the rear is a 4.00-12 but would someone be so kind to inform us what the original land and furrow tire sizes were,it has 16" rims, most plows I saw growing up had whatever 16 inch tire a farmer had laying around.

the op. manaul shows 700-16 i use 600-16 you still can get them or 6.50-16 at a tractor slupply store about $90.00 each

Those plows came to the dealer with either all-steel wheels or with rims for rubber tires. In those days, after WWII, tires were hard to come by. The dealer would mount whatever he had for tires (used) or he would have the customer bring in whatever he had for used car tires. That's why you see so many old plows with mismatched tires. So most any 16" tires will be fine.
The #8 plow is a dandy. I really enjoy plowing with mine. If I can be of any help to your son, just let me know. He has made a wise purchase!

I was looking at some other stuff at the sale and he came up and says, "I bought a plow" I had seen it buried 200 feet into the grove. Got by there yesterday with the chainsaw and got it out of the trees and nearly killed myself loading it into the pickup alone! When I was a kid I plowed with a #8 3-14 and also have my grandpas # 8 3-16, they are a nice little plow. He bought it for $12.50! I was thinking 6.00 or 650-16 tires. Were they the same on both sides?
 
Many people think the landside wheel/tire has to be larger, but it does not make any difference. The right lever (looking from plow to tractor) levels the plow and can easily compensate for any tire differences. So go with 2 tires that are twins or whatever you can find. The main thing is to have fun showing your son how we oldtimers plowed and we thought at the time it was very high-tech.
