Seat replacement for Farmall A

Hello everyone,

I am thinking about giving up my pan seat on my A and replacing with a seat with a back, like the seat provided on a 140 etc. Has anyone changed out their pan seat with another model seat that has a back rest? If so, please post your story. I'm not sure if a 300U or 350U seat frame will fit my A?

Thanks,

Jeff

Its not hard to replace the pan seat with the deluxe seat if you have all the parts, brackets and frame are hard to find .The seat and back rest is not hard to get, if you can find the rest it will fit right on.

Jeff: Not hard to do, most seats you find will have a flat base on bottom. I have a suggestion for all these seats, including your 140. Buy 1.5" square light tubing, put 2 cross members under seat, thus raising seat 1.5". You'll find it gives you much better leg room. I have it on both my 130 and 140, I'd attach a photo, but I can't find the best one while on YT thread. Send me an e mail, I'll return couple of photos.

I used a seat off a forklift. This was done back in 1975 & 1976. You can see it in this old photo. Hal

I have seat from 630 John Deere(I think) on my A bolted right on with one little added bracket and looks similer to 140 seat, in fact I have 140 bottom cushion on it.

NDS: That same seat was used by a number of manufactures in the late 50s - early 60s. One of my seats came from a Cockshutt 540, same seat just wee bit different base.

I put an old IH 140 deluxe hi back seat on the super a, re did the cushions. Only had to enlarge the mount holes for the homemade slide tracks a little bit. One thing I dont like is the ride is stiffer now that those springs from the pan seat aren't there anymore. If you could fit the springs in under the seat, it would be nice, very nice.
