Excite switch for an altenator

Does anyone have the wiring diaghram for using a momentary switch such as a starter switch to excite a delco 12 SI alt.? Thanks!!!!

All it needs is 12V to one side of the switch and wire the other side to the #1 on the Alternator. It does not matter where the 12V comes from.

Run a wire from the ignition coil side of the ign switch, then to the excite switch (momentary contact push button) then to the #1 terminal of the alt. Start the tractor, and push the button, JimN

Probably the simplest is to run a wire from the alternator BAT post to one terminal of your momentary switch. Then run a 2nd wire from the other momentary switch terminal back to the alternator and connect it to the #1 aux terminal.

tennhillbilly: I have three as Bob describes, been working well since I installed them. One close to 20 years now, the other two 6 years. When the tractor fires up just hit the button and watch the amp gauge. When it hits positive you know it's charging.
