606 TA questions

My 606 seems to be stuck in TA. When you move the lever between direct and TA there is no resistance either way. Also, the tractor freewheels all the time (no engine braking in either position) I adjusted the linkage per the I & T manual, but nothing changed. When I got the tractor, the linkage was so far out of whack that it depressed the clutch pedal when you pulled it back into TA. I'm out of ideas. Thanks in advance for any help.

It sounds like your TA clutch is shot, at the very least.

You might get lucky and the rest of the TA is okay, but you will need to start by splitting the tractor at the bell housing to get to the TA clutch.

If a 606 is anything like a W400, there should be an inspection cover on top that you can pull to look down into the TA clutch compartment. Maybe not though because it's a utility.

Assuming the 606 is like the 460U, there is a plate, the clutch disk will come out without a split.

How do you get the clutch shaft out of the way to remove the TA clutch?

You got me shortly after my brain died--what I should have said, which really doesn't apply to the question, is that you don't have to do the 2nd split to remove the TA to remove the disk, I didn't bother the pressure plate.

I was pretty sure you were just referring to the second split. Even so it can be a lot of fun on some models to get the top plate off to access the TA clutch. Once you do get the cover plate off the TA pressure plate, disk, and flywheel can all be removed.

I have had a lot of main clutch problems with that tractor (gear clash). Although I never did the second split, at one time I had the steering, hyd blocks and everything else off or out to check the TA clutch and linkage, etc to see if the TA and associated parts had anything to do with my clutch problem. It didn't. Most of the problem is slop in the main clutch linkage that I partially fixed, still not perfect but it works.
