I know that the crank pulley issue has been beat to death here , But I still need some advice. I have heated and beat the new pulley on within about a quarter of an inch of the front cover. It absolutely will not go any further. I could use the all thread and bottle jack as demonstarted here before, But I am very worried about hurting the fresh crank shaft and the thrust bearing. Question is : Do I have it on far enough to work ok ? It has clearly penatrated the front seal. Thanks in advance for the help.

There is some clearance between the neck of the pulley and the timing cover. You may have it on as far as it will go. Best way to check is to get a light into the hole in the front of the pulley. If there is no gap between the front of the shaft and the pulley, then it's bottomed out and is right where it needs to be. If there's a gap, you can possibly pull it down more using all-thread or a longish bolt threaded into the front of the crank. thread that in and use a large flat washer under a nut to press it on. This works best if you have a way to keep the motor from turning (i.e., it's mounted to the rear end, in gera and wheels chocked.) If not, then the bottle jack and an all-thread jig to the crankcase might be the easier/better approach.

Either way, check that clearance through the front of the pulley first.

Does the fan belt line up with the pully on the fan shaft? It will need to go on far enough to let the belt run true. Dave

There is still clearance to allow it to go on further, I am unsure how well the belts would line up as is because it is still sitting on the engine stand. I suppose I will go with the all thread press set up, And hope I dont damage the crank and or the thrust bearing. It sure would make life easier if someone came up with an aftermarket pulley that utilized a set screw and then the proper weight cast into the pulley on the opposite side to keep it balanced. This is the seconed one I have rebuilt and this pulley is easily the worst part of the job. Thanks for your replies.
