I recently had new valve quides put in the head of my farmall m along with having the valves and seats ground. When I got the tractor running again, I could not get the tractor to idle nicely at any rpm. There is an irregular popping sound that I attributed to the vales sticking open after ignition. I then replaced the valves springs with new springs that were noticeably stiffer. However the problem persisted. The tractor sounds excellent under any type of load, and I would really like to make it great while it idles too. It has been my assumption that the new valve guides are constricting the operation of the valves. Is this really the problem, or is there another issue with the engine? What can I do get the tractor to run nicely at an idle?
