Is the Farmall 45O a CAT 1 or 2

Looking at a log splitter that was on a Farmall 450 and Case 530 wanted to know if it was a CAT 1 or 2 so if it waould fit my 9N. Thanks Scott

450 farmalls were Fast Hitch 2 point when manufactured. Thus it is unknown what hitch was retrofitted to it. Measure or call the original owner. (probable cat 2) but a guess. JimN

The spacing on the fast hitch arms on a 450 is about cat 1. For 3 point conversions, it can have adapters for cat 2 -- so it depends on how the owner had it set up. I believe the 3 point on the 530 was cat 1 only, not sure about that. Don't know how the splitter is set up, but if it is cat 2 and has removable lower pins, you can get cat one pins and put them on the inside of the brackets to make it fit your 9N.

My 460 is very close to cat 1 -- don't know whether they were using categories then. I think the spacing (not the thickness) of the arms was the same on the Super C-560. I don't know about the later fast hitches.

Most of those log splitters are made with category 1 pins, and if you wanted to use it on a category 2 tractor, you placed bushings over those cat. 1 pins.

If by chance the log splitter DOES have cat. 2 pins, you may be able to remove them and replace with cat. 1 pins. Some are bolted on, some are welded.

The 3pt conversion on my 350 fast hitch supports both Cat 1 and Cat 2. Since all 3pt conversions on the 350 and 450 are after market, there are a variety of setups; it just depends which one you have.

The Fast Hitch is Category 1 Width. The plow tongs that I have will accept category 2 pins. I have found out there is approximately 5" more lift from fast hitch to 3 point as the IH fast hitch to 3 pt. conversion has built in. There are several types of after market fast hitch conversions on the market that have various widths to hook to category 2. I purchased a category 1 quick hitch and added 5" on center of holes to the bottom of it as the fast hitch arms don't spread out like a normal 3 pt.
