seasonal disconnect

Currently working on 400 International. Leaks 90 wt oil at the plate on the belly where the seasonal disconnect for the pto is located.
What I need to know is,is this a dry cavity. If so why does the plate have a gasket on it. Why does it have a plug in the hole in bottom. Most dry cavitys have a drain hole in bottom to let out any unwanted oil or water. Also it has fill plug and check plug in side of cavity. Splitting tractor tommorow just would like to know whats going on. Thanks again for info. Bernie Steffen

The only dry cavitys in that housing is where the t/a and main clutch are located. If the transmission is filled with the tractor level, the oil will eventually flow front to rear.
Even after all drain plugs drain there will be oil traped above the seasonal disconnect and in the t/a unit cavity. Seasonal disconnect housing or plate has a oring shaft goes through and that may be leaking. If you are splitting tractor there, a bolt up inside needs removed also.

The tin cover with four bolts holes (bottom cavity in photo) is dry. The others are wet.

If you are splitting the tractor because the TA is not working, you should remove the the gear oil and replace it with Hy-Tran or equivalent. You need to remove three plugs to get it out. That might be the easiest TA fix you will ever do.

I am not just blowing smoke. It is how I fixed the TA on my 400. The rollers in the TA will not advance far enough to lock the one way clutch due to the gear oil's higher viscosity and absence of friction modifiers.

I had trouble with the seasonal disconnect shortly after I got my SMTA, it broke. I am told this is a common problem so I put in a solid collar. You might take a look at yours and if it looks bad consider the solid connection. I don't think you can get parts for the seasonal disconnect anymore.

Why does it have a plug? If you mean the seasonal disconnect plate has a plug, the operating shaft was maybe removed and the hole pluged. If so you will find the dogs welded togeather or a solid coupling inside.

Okay guys thanks very much for the comeback. Now if you will look at the picture of the housing that is displayed. Second hole down, two holes on the outside of that hole , not taped this is where the oil leaks out of. I don"t understand what is supposed to block those holes. Maybe I won"t have to split it after all. Thanks again BErnie

Those 2 holes are drains for the t/a clutch compartment which is suposed to be dry. 3 seals can leak into there. To the rear side the seal for the t/a planet carrier and the t/a input sun gear shaft seal. To the front the seal for the pto drive shaft.
