Ridge at bottom of sleeve

I have slight ridges at the bottoms of the Farmall M sleeves. Do these need to be removed for new rings? I am not talking about the ridges at the top of the sleeves, which I have already reamed to remove the pistons.

Chances are that if you have a ridge at the bottom of the liner the engine was pretty badly worn and you're not going to gain a whole lot with new rings. If you're determined to go ahead then you should take the ridge out for the same reason you removed the one at the top. While you're at it I would measure the skirt clearance on the piston and the ring end gap as well as cylinder out of round if possible. It's a lot easier to do the job right the first time that to tear it down again because it still smokes. Sam

I agree with TractorSam.
The taper in the cylinder must be less than .005" total from below any ridge, to the highest wear point at just below the top ridge. If taper is any more than that, piston slap, and the continuous working of the rings (in and out of the ring grooves pumping oil) will seriously disappoint you. A sleeve kit including most of the needed parts can be had reasonably. This sight sells them.
Doing it twice is far more expensive. JimN

If you have a ridge at the top and BOTTOM The sleeves are PLUM WORE OUT and even if you do get the ridge cleaned up by the time your done honen the new rings will not do much and she will be and Oil burner from day one . It is Now time to do a Major rebuild with NEW everything Then the job is done and it will outlast you and more then likely the NEXT GUY.
