3 position headlight question Farmall H

I'm hooking up my lights on my H with a 3 way switch I bought. I broke the resistor which looks like a coiled wire on the back of the 3 position switch (hooks to the #3 post).
I had another switch and I'm going to use the resistor off of it. My question-- does anyone know how many ohms that resistor is supposed to be? I'm reading only around 1 ohm on the replacement resistor.

Can anyone help?

Thanks!
Bill

That should be about right. It will make it near to 2 Ohms when hot (it does get hot) Do not solder it in place, use crimps, or mechanical connections.
At 6 volts, one or two Ohms make a lot of difference. JimN

Thanks for the tip JimN. Made me mad- I had one that looked almost new (white cover was perfect), then I broke it in half. I was going to solder it, but I'm glad I read your post first. If the older one doesn't work, I guess I could also use a resistor.

As always, I appreciate your help!
Bill

A 1 or 2 ohm 60 watt power resistor will do it. It can be ceramic wire wound, or open wire wound, but it will get hot either way. The ceramic is easier to keep out of contact with internal parts of the electrical box. JimN
