Farmall M or Super M ?

Can someone tell me the differences between a Farmall M and Super M? My serial number plate shows "Model M" but the decals show "Super M". I'm wondering if someone may have used the wrong decals or perhaps replaced the engine cover with one from another tractor. How can I verify what model I have?

Old question answered many times on this forum.

1. Serial number starts with SM for Super M models
2. Disc brakes on SM versus band on M's
3. Battery under seat on SM

Farmall 300u: An old subject, some bozo puts SM size pistons and sleeves in an M, then thinks that makes it a Super M.

Have you looked at the casting codes like Hugh says never know when some bozo changed brakes seats and decals. The casting codes could vary a bunch telling you stuff has been changed.

A few late M's had disc brakes.
Battery is under the gas tank on early SM.

The plate on my tractor shows the serial number as FBK271220X1 and Model as M. The battery is located beneath the gas tank. I'm not sure what type brakes. A serial number chart I found on the web shows my tractor as a Model "M" manufactured in 1951 and NOT a "Super M". Guess the decals must be wrong?
