how do you make sure the timing is right on this tractor? Is there somewhere we can look near the fuel pump too make sure it is correct?

The pump timing mark and pointer can be seen by removing the pipe plug to the left of the injection pump. The engine timing mark and pointer can be seen by removeing the cover plate on the right side of the clutch housing. When the pump timing mark and pointer are lined up look at the timing marks on the flywheel to see what degrees your pump is timed at.
There is internal timing inside the pump that can only be adjusted with special tools and that timing can change by normal wear. If you are looking for accurate timing both internal and external timing need to be checked.

The early engines did not have the pipe plug hole to check timing. You had to remove the front cover to see the marks.
