Gene Bender and Hugh Mc, I have read yours and others in the archives on repairing the steering gear, but I have a couple of questions. Does the radiator have to come of to get to the nuts that hold the U bolt that goes around the axle?
I have located 6 cap screws to take the lower part off, 4 "inside" and 2 "outside", is that right? The axle has to come all the way off anyway because the part the pivot pin goes thru is broken off from the axle tube on the back side.
BTW , if any one is wondering, the top steering arms off an International A-1 won"t work on a "48 SA .
The angle and pitch is way different.
Thanks

TWheat: It's been awhile since I did this, thus a bit rusty. I did remove the axle from my Super A without removing that U bolt. Mine has the adjustable axle, thus I removed the left inner axle tube complete with spindle and steering arm. Then rest of axle and right spindle came off the right side. I never did remove the U bolt.

When I did my 130, rad was off for doing the governor, left inner axle tube was stuck, thus I did remove the U bolt to drop the whole axle.

I guess it depends on the problems one encounters. You do what you have to do.

I remove the radiator just because its easier then the u-bolt is out of the way to remove the axle. Then i do replace all the seasl. You will need to put thread sealer on the big nut when replacing so it doesent leak any 90wt when im finished. With new seals ,bushings and the bearing i dont have any leaks. Make sure the spindles get grease to the bottom where the flange seats. They will steer like new and easy when finished. You mite need to use a disc sander to get the ball ends on the tie-rods round again.

Thanks Gene and Hugh, I appreciate your help.
Taking the radiator off may be the easiest, but the adjustable axle probably needs freeing up anyway. Gene , I did do the ball ends like you said, but used a dremel. Thanks again
