oil filter case retaining bolt Gasket

Will someone enlighten me as to what this gasket material is....it seals the the filter bolt to the filter case on an international 404 tractor...I am changing the oil & cleaning the the oil pan ...which has not been done in a long time if the amount of sludge is an indicator.

I was going to suggest that it is just a soft copper washer, commonly referred to as a crush gasket.

Only misgiving I have is that when I went to look it up, the hollow retaining bolt on his tractor shows a couple of ears at the top that look like they might pass through a couple of notches that might be at the top of the bell. A copper gasket wouldn't go over those, so I'm wondering if his gasket might be made of something else, of a pliable material that might slip over those ears, that's maybe hardened up over the years the way the square o-rings at the bottom do.

If it weren't for that, I'd agree without hesitation, copper crush gasket.

Thanks for the replys...my bolt does not have the "ears" shown in the parts manual,so the copper washers will probably do.....any idea as to I.D.x O.D. x thickness?

CaseIHNHFord sells them as part #13727D.

As luck would have it, that's the same as a couple I have here. Measured em up and got

ID -- 11/16"
OD -- 7/8"
Thick -- 1/16"

if you're going to be shopping around at other than a CaseIH dealer.

That 11/16" inside diameter is commonly referred to in a "nominal" size as a 5/8" washer, i.e., it's made to fit around a 5/8" bolt. Trick is that it's quite narrow, about 3/32", much more so than a common washer.

It's fading some, but the more common application for that type of washer is on automotive motor oil drain plugs. Second trick is that a lot of those anymore, where they still use them, are metric.

The thought is that you may be able to find one locally for that application. If you have the center bolt out anyway, take it with you and try a 5/8"/16mm drain plug gasket for fit. It might just do the trick.

Scotty,
I found a gasket at one of the auto stores...it's Dorman (Motor-Mite -Oil -Tite) #65273...the package is marked 5/8-M14.It is 16mm id is is a press fit on the bolt apprears to be the correct od.
