Power Door Locks

The driver's side door lock on my 2001 Crown Victoria keeps clicking and trying to lock. What could be the problem?

Hi I have had problems on older GM cards with power door locks and power windows being intermittent and the problem usually is a voltage or ground wire that goes through the rubber boot between the door and door frame. After so many many opennng and closing the door flexing the wires in that boot one of the wires will break inside the wire insulation.

if it has keyless entry keypad, it could be bad, there were some issues with water intrusion on those. Other than that, shorted wire, switch or relay.

Please explain.

When you hit the lock button it "tries to lock" but can't?

If so the actuator in the door has rust in it and is losing ground.

Does it keep trying to lock while going down the road even though no one is touching the button?

Wiring issue.

Does it actually lock on its own without anyone touching anything?

Toggle switch issue on the door or touch pad issue on the remote lock fob.

My neighbor had the same thing. His Crown Vic would drive him nuts, the locks going off and on constantly. Turned out to be a short.
