706 hi-low?

Saw an ad for a 706 with this description...

International 706 tractor that motor, tires, and hydraulics are good.
But the high/low range shift is out of it.

Is that the T/A or is there a different high/low on those 706's?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

The 706 had a range transmission, (high range and low range), along with the speed transmission, (1, 2, 3, and 4). Neither of these have anything to do with the TA.

Not an unusual problem. The original shift rail had the fork attached with a bolt that went through the rail. The shift rail would break through the bolt hole and allow the fork to fall out of place. You would lose High and Low but Reverse would still work.

Thanks for all of the information. Now the rookie question, how hard is that to fix? hours, days, or weeks? are we talking a tractor split or hundreds (thousands?) of dollars?

I believe the T/A was actually an option on the 706/806, although most came with it. I have seen a couple without, just had a plug in the sheet metal where the lever shaft would have been

If it is the shift rail it can take somewhere between one hour to a day. How dirty is it? Does it have a cab on it? Does it have front hydraulic outlets? Does the range cover and linkage need to be rebuilt?

You have to remove the the range transmission cover. The 06's did not have an access cover in the floor board but many have been cut out if they have a cab on them. A new shift rail shaft can be installed by removing the upper three point hitch mounting bracket and using that hole in the rear frame.
