While I am playing with ring and pinions, a thought crossed my mind. Is it possible to use a 560 ring and pinion in an M? Is it slower, and what all do you need to do the install? Just the Ring and pinion, or other gears/bearings/etc? If anyone has done this, please let me know, as I'd like to slow my M down. Thanks.

I put 560 gears in a SMTA. Yes it slows the tractor significantly. It can't be done with a M or SM.

Put the 660 planetarys, axles and wheels on the M. Depending on tire size thats on the 660 that will slow it also.

Why are you not able to use 560 gears in an M? is the spline for the trans gears different? Thanks for any info.

I can't say exactly why the two transmission are incompatible but D Slater could. I know the shifting forks and collars on the gears are bigger on the later tractors. That is not an insurmountable problem but I am sure there are other more significant problems.

I am just speculating here but it might be possible to to take some parts and modify them to work. If the centerlines of the mainshaft and counter shaft are the same (and I think they are), then anything is possible.
