Farmall H bearing replacement

I remember back when I was a whole lot younger we had no problem replacing rod bearings and I seem to recall there was no problem with the middle and front main but I don't recall if one could replace the rear main with the enging still in place. I am doing a mild engine refresh on one and am trying to not split the tractor. This 1952 H was a one owner tractor and the rod bearings were original stamped with 2/51 on the shells. What's more they probably could be used if needed.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Russ, I've never personally done it, but after years of reading these forums, I've always heard that the tractor had to be split for a main bearing and main seal replacement.

The bearing housing has a tab that fits into a notch on the block and one on the cap. Drop the cap and take a screwdriver to tap the cap backwards out of the groove. Make sure to stay on the housing metal and not hit the bearing surface.

You can replace the rear main also, requires removing the plate that oil pan seals on, may tear gasket on rear oil seal retainer but a good silicone sealer will take care of it. Can't replace the rear seal though without removing flywheel.
