Oil to Use With M&W Live Hydraulic Pump

Been reading and learning a lot from this forum recently, but this is my first post.

I have been working on a 47 M which has an M & W engine driven live hydraulic pump in place of the belly pump. It also has an IH remote hydraulic valve mounted next to the belt pulley housing.

Original owner had been using 20W-20 non detergent motor oil in later years, but have not seen that grade of oil in stores. I understand M & W pump instructions from the 50's recommended "Sinclair Gascon Heavy Duty Hydraulic Oil or equivalent" whatever that was.

What oil would you recommend for use with this hydraulic system?

Tractor will see limited light duty without much opportunity to mix oil from other tractors & implements.

You can use HyTran or equivalent, hydraulic fluid, universal hydraulic fluid, etc. I use SAE 30 detergent, you might want to use non-detergent to reduce foaming for heavy use. My use is light duty, and it's one less type of oil to keep. I don't think the pump cares. As to the belly pump, we used detergent oil, heavy use, for several years with no problems. Might not want to do that with modern hyd systems, which M&W or the original hydraulics, aren't.

I would use any generic or name brand tractor hydraulic oil as sold by; oil jobbers, parts houses, or tractor supply houses, etc. I personally would not use motor oil, detergent or non detergent, in the hydraulic system even though it may be ok.
