Has anyone else experienced sickness after removing old paint? I admit that I have not been careful to wear dust protection. Suggestions?

And red and green have the highest levels. This is one of the reasons why you could only buy those two truck colors from IH for many years. High lead equaled durability in the old paint formulations. When I think of old Mack trucks, anything other than those two colors seems out of place.

I would search on-line or in the Yellow Pages for a lead paint remediation program. Whoever answers the phone will be able to direct you to a service that may be able to help you. Lead blood levels can be reduced through a process called "chelation". Look that up too.

I believe sooner is better than later. The lead can lodge in your bone tissue and then re-emerge slowly for many years later.

Can't say that it's made me sick, but I am familiar with the not-just-like-copper, but somewhat sweet taste of dust from lead-base paint. If I notice it at all that's when I switch over from the simple dust mask to a half-face respirator.

Are you havin' symptoms of some sort?

Every time I try to brush or blast, I end up with nausea for a few days. Kind of got me discouraged.

I was afraid of that. The symptoms seem to come back from time to time so I better do what you have suggested. Thanks.

Try that half face respirator. They're not costly, a lot of auto supply stores keep them and replacement canisters.

You need a charcoal mask with dust filters. Don't try the "surgical" or paper masks. They don't filter out much of anything. Unless you have had previous lead exposure or removed a lot of paint, I doubt if the lead content is your problem. I get somewhat "woozy" if I don't wear my mask. But, it is never a good idea to be around lead dust in particular or any type dust in general without a mask.
