So, Hugh, working on the loose steering on my 2nd superA. It has the square shaft which looks like the end has been twisted. I know you have fixed these before. I"ve got all the pieces off but not sure if I can reshape the shaft to make it tight.

Bruce: Just let me make sure I'm reading this right, Your saying the vertical shaft, with square taper has a twist in the square taper, right or wrong? How much of a twist? I have to think you may be better off finding another shaft.

I have smoothed these up with an angle grinder, but a twist or cork screw effect could take a lot of grinding. What I use to restore the size of the square taper is shim stock. Let me correct that, shim stock has become obsolete, made that way by the aluminum can. I near fellover back two years ago, went looking for shim stock. Most places sales staff looked at me as though I had two heads.

My biggest fear in this case is you may have trouble keeping the steering control arm tight if this requires a lot of shim buildup. I've never used more than 2-3 wraps of shim stock.

The square is twisted about am 1/8 of an inch down. The bolt groove is worn so the pitman arm slid down some. The twist maybe 1 or 2 degrees I guess. If shims would fix it I have plenty can material to use, ha ha .
