Fellows I finished putting the A back together today. We changed out the complete front end and gas tank. That bottom radiator hose is a pain to get on. Anyway I started the tractor and when I went to shut it down with the switch it would not stop running. The gen. had to come off for 1 bolt to be removed. The wire to the bat term. on the regulator was removed by my helper. There was a wire at the gen not hooked to anything and he could not remember witch wire he removed. Could I have the wrong wire hooked to the bat term on the regulator and it cause this problem? This tractor has a Mag not a distributer.

Battery, generator and regulator have nothing to do with starting or stopping the engine when it has a magneto.

To stop the engine, ground the small (About #8 size) screw head that sticks out the side of the magneto. This screw connection should be wired to the Run/Stop switch and nowhere else. When the switch is pulled out, the engine should run, when you push it in, it stops. At least that is how the original worked.

If you have a magneto, do not hook anything to the screw on the side except a connection to ground the mag to stop the tractor. If you hook battery power to that screw on the mag, the mag will reguire repairs before it will work again.

The screw on the side of the mag is hooked to a wire that runs to the on off switch. It is not an original switch(have one ordered hasnt come in yet) the switch that is on it has 2 termminals wire from the mag goes to 1, wire grounded to the tractor to the other

Here's the grounding terminal on a mag. Hope you didn't run battery voltage to it. This was off a garden tractor. Hal

Rigged up switch is bad. If I touch the wire from mag to switch to the frame of the tractor it shuts down. New original type switch will be here Friday Thanks
