Farmall H flip up seat?

I have a 1948 H and the seat dont flip back like I've seen on a few M's. My niehbor flips his seat on his M back when its outside to keep water off it and flips it back so he can stand up while driving. Are all H's seats fixed? Just M's flip back?

Flip-up seats on Cs, Hs and Ms were an option. The basic seat was simply a seat of the standard four-bolt pattern affixed to the seat mount.

There were two designs. The optional flip-up seat for the C/SuperC was a three-piece mount that bolted to the seat mount and to the underside of the standar four-bolt seat. I don't knwo if this was offered for the H or M, but it's design might have hade it possible, and I have a vague but unreliable recollection that the flip-up on Grandpa's 400 was of this type.

The other type used a different seat pan than the four-bolt. It had two parallel rails on the underside. Each rail had a hole near the upper/rear end to accommodate a hinge pin, and an arcguide for another pin to allow the tip-up motion. Bates Corp has a good picture of the underside of this type which might be more helpful than my attempt to describe it.

Which seat do you have? Does it have the spring and shock? I dont think all of those had the flip-over attachment on them.

You must have what IH called the hydraulic seat attachment where the seat pan mounts with 4 bolts. If so you need a tilt back seat bracket to go between seat and where it bolted before bracket is added. Same one could be on about all tractors that have a battery box or tool box under the seat if you look for one. Some aftermarket companies sold them also. Standard seat and frame for a 48 H came with the tilt feature built in.

The flip up apparatus that is on your neighbors M will fit your H also. It was an optional accessory. Some Farmalls have it, some don't. I doubt if you can buy a new one today, but there should be some available in salvage yards.

Hi Paul, I saw your seat on the H in the flip up position on Saturday at the Republic Antique Tractor and Steam show. I kept returning to your tent to stay dry and hoping to catch you there but once it started really raining I left. Send me an email with your email address as the one I have must not be current. Hal

They are one e-pay all the time.....usually sell between $25.00 and $35.00. Usually one of the first things to sell around here when I part a tractor out.

There are 2 or 3 different types of seat mounts that will fit the H & M tractors. I have one that flips up and the other one doesn't.
