F240 Fast hitch drawbar and PTO distance?

Just went to use for the 1st time a PTO driven implement on the F240 with 2pt fast hitch and noticed that the distance from the end of PTO shaft to Center of drawbar pin was less than the standard 14". Is it possible that its not the right 2pt hitch drawbar, or was there an extension plate that was added to get the lenght right?

dep: None of the fast hitch crossbars on any models give the 14". They were all designed for adding a sort of triangle shaped plate. They spanned three hole on the cross bar coming back to about 3" at drawbar pin. This allows you to turn without binding as you would get pinned direct to cross bar.

You can make one out of 5/8" or 3/4" steel plate. The factory ones were 5/8" on 200, 230 and 240, 3/4" on larger tractors. I've seen them made out of 1" on big tractors.

Thanks for the info hugh. I wonder why IH didnt just make them a bit longer to meet the standard?

heres a couple pics of my 240u, one with the hitch plate on the drawbar, and the other with the fasthitch to 3 pt adapter

When Dad got a new Super C with Fast Hitch, if came with the extention already on it. I would guess it's more like 5 or 6" than 3 though. It seems like his 460 also had the extention, but that was after I was gone from home and didn't use that [u:b6374c57b7]nearly[/u:b6374c57b7] as much as the SC.
