1948 Farmall Cub Info Needed

I am trying to help a friend with his 1948 Farmall Cub tractor since he is painting some of the tin for my Ford 8N tractor. Here is the information that I have taken off the tractor. I am not familar with Farmall's but would like to help him out.

Model # FCUB
Serial # 3382

Magneto plus Distributor
J4003536 or J4003586

Hydraulic Fluid Container
10 15 R
351981R1
T2

I am told the tractor will start up and run, but once you put a load on it, it will misfire a few times and then die and will not restart unless you come back later and try. I am not familar with magnetos at all, so I don't even know where to start looking.

He has also mentioned that the hydraulics do not work. I am not familar with the Farmall hydraulic, so I don't even know where to start looking here either.

Any help or push in the right direction would be great. If there are certain sites that I should visit to become familar with these systems, please let me know.

Thanks,

Hiney

farmallcub.com for info
tmtractors.com or caseih dealer for new parts
ralphscubs.com for used parts
sounds like the coil went bad in the mag and was replaced with an external coil
try replacing the coil to get it running
magman does a great job on rebuilding mags
hydraulics check for fluid needs to be up to fill plug high on left side, if you add to it watch to see if it goes down and the engine oil level goes up
drain all the water oil mix, flush, add 3 1/2 pints 90 wt gear oil or HY/TRAN to the trans
good luck

Sounds like a carb. problem. Needs a good cleaning. Also recommend checking and resetting the points. There is a Cub site that has all of the manuals including the service manual for the mag.

The place to start on the hydraulics is to see if there is plenty of fluid and then check the pump pressure. After that go to the touch control unit. There is a manual on that site that covers that also.

Dave,

Do you happen to know what the web address is for the Cub website that you mentioned?

Thanks,

Hiney
