Believe they were put on to help make it easier to steer.
Some one will chime in and verify this.

On my H the thick part was to the front. which reduced the castor.

Hope this helps.

With respect, the thick part in front causes the caster to increase. It moves the point of contact between tire and road farther behind the pivot axis. (Like a shopping cart front wheel is behind its pivot axis.) This makes it a little less likely to wobble in road gear, and a tiny bit harder to turn at speed. It is same as caster on a car front end, but instead of adjusting the angle of the axix (on a car) the location of the contact point is moved. JimN

Which way is it supposed to be?

Having the wide part of the wedge in the rear would make the tractor easier to steer, but wobble more at high speeds, right?

Seems each way has its advantages.

How would power steering affect your decision? I would think that if you had power steering, you'd want the wide side of the wedge in front.

The wedge makes so little difference in the field, that it is irrelevant. on the road it is somewhat more stable, so putting it thick front is my choice.
Putting it the other way would exacerbate the wobble and I don't need that. JimN
