Dennys Carb Shop Venturi

I have a Super M that I am experimenting with. I am approaching it with a very precise way of testing. I am changing one thing at a time and seeing what happens. I have a C-281 in it. In the past we placed a 706 Venturi in an M Carb on C-281 and gained 2HP at 540 and 4 HP at max horsepower. With this in mind I thought that going to Denny"s would be a good place to go but I was wrong. I tried to ask questions but they seemed rather blunt. I purchased a venturi that was supposed to be for a 281 and when I put it in my Super M carb my 281 lost 1.5HP at 540!!! I am going to try a 706 venturi next from friends tractor just to see what happens. Are these guys charlatans?

Ever try a W9 carb? A 281 should use a 27 or a 29, providing it has a close to stock compression cyl pressure. With high compression, your air speed and the amount of air will be increased. If it makes good power at 540, it should have a 15to 25 hp "torque curve" when you pull it down from 540 to 400 to 350 pto rpm. An engine setup to run high rpm wont lug at 1500 rpm or less than one that was setup for 1200 engine rpm to say,,,up to 1800 rpm. Huge difference in the two setups. Chad

It is a 281 with fire crater pistons and the 281 head. I already drilled the main jet to get more fuel in her. I just found it to be ironic that the guys that suppose to be selling perfomance parts are sendingh stuff out that decreases horsepower.

I read your point, I know what you said. I left it alone.

A fact that you pointed out,,,,

You said a 706 venturi worked in the past,

Why didnt ya ask for a 706 venturi?

If your that picky on what your doing, then you best be more specific on what you want.

Ive done the change one part at a time routine, time and time again. Been there, done that!

Its why I suggest parts/ideas you have not tried yet, instead of having a lets bash the fella that sold me what I didnt ask for party.

Good Luck. ChadS

lessoned learned. NEVER GO TO DENNY's for Carb parts. they dont know anything about there own products. and they are very rude and dont want to help you with anything. They only thing they have that is worth it is the wheelie bars. That is the only thing that they should sell. everything else is junk and is not worth money. they treat their customers like dirt!
