My new M needs help. When I put it in 5th gear the shifter moves as it should, but when I let out on the clutch nothing happens. If I pull back on the shifter I can hear and feel the gears rub. I have never looked in the gear box of the M. My A was a snap. There are some bolt heads on top of the traney that has some kind of putty around them. They seem to be in recess for some reason. I thank the putty is to keep water from seeping around the bolts and into the gear box. #1 Now is there a inspection plate I can remove ? #2 Do you think the shifting fork could be bent.#3 If needed can I buy one from YT

Bent is possible, but if 4th works fine, it is worn out teeth on 5th. It is a direct input to output shaft using sliding splines on the inside of 4th gear, and the input shaft. It is not hard to fix compared to splitting, but it will require taking off the trans platform, and the Belly pump, as well as the belt pulley if it has one. to gain access. JimN

Repair manuals are available here (top left). The gears (I think) are being made by someone. Search the archives for H gears. Good salvage yards will have some, but be choosy. JimN

If it came with steel wheels, might still have a lockout screw to keep it out of fifth.
" On tractors equipted with steel rear wheels, the (High) fifth speed is locked out by a lockout screw (located on top of the transmission case). Do not remove this screw unless the tractor is converted to pneumatic tires. Then remove the lockout screw and replace it with a 3/8 X 3/4-inch cap screw" page 10 of the instruction manual for my MD.

If it were the lockout screw, the shift lever would not go into 5th position at all. It would be like the gear is not there.
