How long will an H run?

I've never had a full tank of gas in my H. And it's never run long enough to burn what little I have in there. I was thinking about hay rides and making ice cream and such, and I realized I have no idea how long an H will run on a full tank of gas? I realize it's a subjective question, given the workload, but let's say I'm pulling a parade float. What can I expect out of it before I need fuel?

Mike: I'm thinking better part of 8-10 hours. It's been awhile since I've been around an H, however back two months ago I was running my 140 hard in 2nd gear 8-10 hours every day, and it was running 5-7 US gallons. I always had a 5 gal and 2.5 gal jerry can, and never emptied both. My average on 6 days was 2.8L per hour.

An H won't be much higher than that, they were quite fuel efficient. I can remember one heck of a difference back when added a 300 along with the H. 300 is a fuel hog alongside an H.

A full tank should be no problem unless you are talking the Macy's Thanksgiviving Day Parade in NYC.

A full tank used to last nearly all day when either mowing or raking hay. Going on hay rides would be about the same.

Nebraska tractor test came up with a rating of 12 horsepower-
hours per gallon for the H. That means if you have it properly tuned
and working at full load, it should burn about 2 gallons per hour.
That said, I don't think I have ever worked mine that hard. Just
puttering around with a hay ride or icecream churn, it will use
considerably less.

Dad's old H would run about 5 hrs. plowing, give or take a few minutes depending on the ground he was plowing. He converted the small tank (originally kerosene burner) to a reserve tank, so he always made it home to refuel if he ran out.

Mike - My Super H pulls one of the hayrides at a friend's choose 'n cut Christmas tree farm each December. Starting with a full tank it'll go all weekend (10 - 12 hours of running) and still have gas left on Sunday night.

The work of course is easy - 1/4 throttle in 4th gear with with LOTS of idle time.

I drive my Super H to our club plow day with a full tank of gas. I pull a 2x-14 Little Genius, most of the time in 3rd gear. (It's nice river bottom ground.) We start plowing at 8:00 am, break for lunch, plow until it's done (about 3:00 pm) and I still have a little over 1/3 tank of gas left, more than enough to drive the 9 miles back home.

As noted by Ed below they burn two gallons an hour under "full load" - meaning under hard pull with governor giving it all she can handle - essentialy how you'd run while hooked to a plow.

Under light load - like what you are using it for it probably burn half or less that much fuel. The fuel tanks holds 17 gallons and we could easily run our H (with indifferant tune) for 12-14 hours a day while putting up hay with a 9'sickle bar mower or a 5 bar rake with only morning fill ups.

I think an H under those circumstance would go all day and the next. I drive my M to town 4 times a year pulling a trailer with the A on it (30 miles RT) and do some hayride pulling at the shows and I use less Than 20 gallons a year. The last two trips I didnt refuel and I still have better than 10 gals. An H will go a lot further. Henry

7AM to 4PM, with an hour off at noon, if I forget to put gas in at noon. This is with a full load. Round it off to 2 gallons/hr, loaded.
