Splitting the H to fix an oil leak

I have an oil leak that won't quit and it is bugging me so I am going to split the H that I have done for the neighbor.

Can I just hook up my stands to the rear of the engine rails and support the front end that way? I just want to be sure that it will hold while I jack up the rear with a pallet jack and roll it away from the front.

I guess I am concerned about the rails supporting the bolster and engine at the front and nothing on the rear.

Is it safe to do it this way?

I would have to see your stands before making that call. If your stands provide support enough wider than the frame rails to keep it upright you would probably be okay. I use 4 pieces of 3/4in all thread in the upper and lower holes on each side and only split far enough to get the work done.

Make 2 dowel pins from long bolts to put in each side of frame rails and into clutch housing before all bolts are removed. Split just enough to put part of bolts with nuts back through frame rails and engine rear plate, then finish spliting with the stands on frame rails. If it has the solid front engine mounts one or 2 bolts a side will do. If it has the early type rubber mounts put 2 bolts a side back in. Remember to remove starter and bolt behind it.
You can get to seals without spliting though.

Have to admit I was thinking transmission seals and you may be after the rear main seal when I said you dont have to split.

So you are saying I can get to the rear main without splitting the tractor? I need to remove the flywheel to see where it is leaking from. This is a fresh rebuild that I did so I must not have done something right.

I wanted to deliver it to my neighbor, but the drip is bothering me so I want to fix it.
