Farmall C Sleeves sticking above block

I installed the sleeves in the block..Cleaned everything good first, use dish soap, etc...Manual says sleeve should protrude .003-.007"...I am at .008, & .009....Should I machine them down to be in the middle of the range???

Bought the rebuild kit from this site. Thanks for any help!!!!

I would. Coolant leaks can be caused by excessive rim protrusion. Not into cylinder, but to oil galleries, and oil return openings. JimN

mark i ran into the same problem on my super m. the sleeves i got fom this site were a little too tall, had to have them machined down.

Yes, machine them down to within proper spec! Mine on my "A" were the same way. I attributed this to the fact that I had my engine block "decked", thus making the sleeves too tall. I took the block and sleeves to the machine shop and they made things right. Don't screw around, get it done, or else you will have problems....

Is that height measured after using bolts and washers to clamp the sleeve in place or just setting in there free? I would clamp them down to get accurate measurement like the head does.

It is not optional. You WILL leak coolant. I found out the hard way. Interestingly the IH manual for my Super C didn"t mention this. I eventually found the .003-.007 info. in an IT manual.
