SPARK PLUG - INFO HELP NEEDED

I RUN EITHER D21 CHAMPIONS OR A AUTOLIGHT 388 IN MY TRACTOR ,( FARMALL M ) WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT NUMBER OR BRAND OF PLUG THAT I COULD SWITCH TO THAT HAS A PROJECTED TIP ? IF SOMEONE KNOWS OR COULD POINT ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION I WOULD BE GRATEFUL. THE LOCAL SHOPS AND PEOPLE BEHIND THE COUNTER DON'T KNOW WHAT THERE LOOKING FOR -

WHATS A AUTOLIGHT 3116 COMPARED TO A 388 OR CHAMP D21 IN HEAT RANGE ? I LIKE THE LOOK OF A AUTOLITE 3116 BECAUSE OF THE PROJECTED TIP . GET THE FIRE DOWN IN THERE.

I had the partsman call Autolite last winter to see what the correct sparkplug for an M was. Rep recomended 3116s for todays gasoline in the 4cylinder IH engines & 386s in the IH 6 cylinder engines. At the time I was using 386s in my SMs, SMTA & was having some fouling problems. 3116s seem to have eliminated the problem.

FWIW, I use to run Champions but the last few years their quality seems to have gone down hill

I've had Champions that were no good right out of the box.

The Autolite 3116 is a non-resistor plug, and when used in conjunction with solid core plug wires, should provide a good, hot spark. The 386 and 388 are both resistor type plugs and CAN replace the 3116 in a distributor ignition but are not suitable for a magneto. I don't know how a non-resistor plug compares in heat range to a resistor type plug.

I have NGK A7 in my M. I don't know about the tip but they work much better then D21 that I had before. I still use Champions but not in my M.

I like NGK plugs in ANYTHING. Had a high-milage engine eating Delco plugs due to fouling in my 1979 C20 (original engine) and had even used the "no-foul" adapter, you know the one the plug screws into and has a little hole in the end. The NGK's resist fouling MUCH better than any convential plug I have used. If they make a NGK for a piece of gasoline equipment I own, it gets NGK plugs. Bar none, the best for the money.
