Difference between Farmall H and M

I have two Farmall tractors. One is a model HX6, FBH, serial # 56536. The other is a model M, FBK, serial # 111578X. What will interchange between the two? I tried to use the carb. off the M on the H and it is completely different. The model H runs (sort of), but the M has sat outdoors for many years and is basically just scrape metal. I'm thinking about giving away the M to the junk dealers but would like to save anything that will work on the H. What should I save? Anything?

why not post some pictures of the m, somebody here may be interested in it, be a real shame just to send it to the scrapper. where is the tractor located?

Starter, maybe distributor, anything electrical will probably fit, including lights and switches, such as ignition, starter, and the entire light-switch/ammeter box. Light bar, gas and radiator caps, oil pressure and temp gages, muffler, seat and throttle lever. M drawbar is heavier, but will fit the H. Wheelweights, rear rims and tires, but not the wheel centers. Front rims and tires will exchange. Fenders are the same, if you have them. Steering wheel, and the universal joint in the middle of the steering shaft. Probably the sediment bulb on the gas tank.

What give it to the scrap man are you insane???? Sell it or give it to some one who can would use it for parts and I know there is probably a good number of people on here that would be more then happy to pay you scrap price just to have a few parts

Thanks for the response. It looks like none of the major drivetrain components are interchangable. This is what I suspected. Jack

Again, Jack, you might not want to just junk it. There are lots of people here who might like to save that tractor. Local 4H or FFA might use it for a project. Depending on where you are, there may be someone close who can use it and put it to use rather than scrapping it. Many here are proud of tractors they"ve "saved".

Jack, don't mention the 'S' word in this forum. That's just a shame. You can break down that entire tractor and sell just about everything on Ebay and make a lot more than you will from the scrap man. Go to ebay and look at "Farmall M" and I'll bet you'll find just about every component for sale.

A little effort on your part can get you more money, and get someone else parts they need to keep their old girls in fighting shape.
