Question about block number on my Super A ....

I found the number on my block of my Super A to be 71209. I think it may be a C motor for it has a water pump and it is 1" longer block length than normal. Does anyone have an idea as to the cubic inch size and what tractor this originated from possibly?

Brian: 71209 does sound like a engine serial number. The block part number should be partially hidden by the oil filter and should be either 6342 DH being an A or B block, 251069 R1 being a C or early SA block (before tractor serial number 310300 or 354898 R1 being a late SA or SC.

As for exterior block size there is no difference. Water pump will make it a bit longer but that can be added to all these blocks.

Did some cleaning before I seen the reply and under the red paint is some yellow, I think that it may be out of an industrial tractor. What were some common block numbers for those? I will check later behind the oil filter for numbers. Thanks for the info!

Brian: Check that block part number, partially behind oil filter. Industrials with C-113 and C-123 engines used the same block part numbers as Farmalls. You could have a newer engine as IH used a lot of yellow primer in late 50s, early 60s. Could be 140 or 240 engine. It could also be a C-135 or C-153, which would be physically a bit larger. All those C-123, C-135 and C-153 after 1955 will have the letter and number cast in block, just above distributor, just as I have printed it.

The number I got from behind the oil filter is 367825 R1. Thanks for your help in finding the information and numbers! With the number, what designates the year and block size?

Brian: 367825 R1 is a block from a 140 or 240, and it will be 123 cubic inches. Which type water pump does it have? 140 and 240 used an automotive type pump on the fan shaft. Super A pumps were mounted on bottom water outlet of block. I suspect they had to use the Super A type pump as 140 or 240 fan would not work with Super A radiator and shroud, unless they did a lot of modification.

The water pump is on top with the fan attached to the same pulley. One other question, how do you check the electrical system if it is positive ground or negative ground? The battery has been switched around so many times, and the original owner can not be found.

Brian: I wouldn't even venture a guess on the electrical. Anyone capable of getting a Super A shroud and radiator around a 140 or 240 fan is capable of most anything. You obviously have a tractor built from a mix of a Super A and a 140 or maybe even a 240. It's anybody's guess how much of each tractor he used.

Externally every A, B, C, SA, SC, 100, 200, 130, 230, 140 and 240 block are the same size, and all will exchange with each other. The problem comes when you start adding electrical, water pumps, fans, sheet metal, etc.
