Wiring harness question for Farmall H

I bought a new wiring harness to install on my 42 H. But the problem is I don't have the heart to put a beautiful reproduction on a FILTHY tractor. I plan on painting the machine within a year and just want to test run it until then. I don't need electric start, pull starting is ok. I don't need lights.
The tractor has voltage regulator on generator and magneto ignition. IIRC this means you can run it without a battery and not cause harm.
THE BIG QUESTION:
Can I just make a wire to run from the mag to the switch and not use any of the other wires?
Will it wreck the generator not having a battery?
Will I need to make up any other wires?

Yes. One wire from the switch to the mag is all you need, but you should also remove the generator or at least remove the belt.

To be sure things are OK, the Ignition switch on a mag is a Kill switch. There is only one wire attached, and the switch body is grounded. When the button is out, the switch is open, and the mag makes spark. When the switch is pushed in, it is closed, mag primary current goes to ground and the mag makes no spark. The tractor can be started by pulling, or cranking. Take the wires off of the Generator, and it will be fine. Removing the belt is even better (as noted below). JimN

That is what I thought, but I hate to wreck something. I also figured that was why a mag tractor had a one wire switch. I would guess you could use a two wire and ground the second wire out if that is all you had.
I will probably pull the gen belt if it isn't too hard to do. For some reason, I thought I heard it was bad to have them charging with no battery to charge to. I suppose I could just cut the belt bc it will get a new one before it goes back together.
