should you have an inline resistor before the coil of a farmall M when using pertronix ignitor #1442 and pertronix coil #40611 40k volts have read the literature and listened to a lot of advice but would like to know for sure before I burn it up

If you are still 6v, then with that 3 ohm coil, you are only running a meager 2 amps.........not going to burn it up, but not a lot of energy either. I believe that if you contact Pertronix, you will find that it is intended to run at about 4 amps.
