5th gear in Farmall F-20

I have a 1936 farmall f-20. my 20 has a 5th gear in it AND i wondered if it needs any oil or lubercant??? When i drive it the transmission makes a grouly noise. My grandpa who drove this tractor 40 years ago said it's suposto make that noise. i wonder if it is just like that or needs oil????

Your gears in the transmission and outboard reductions are all straight cut gears, thus will be inherentily noisy.

Yes, they do require lubrication.

The outboard reductions have a check and drain port (pipe plug) between the housing and wheel. The transmission also has a check port, but can't really remember where it is at this moment.

You'll want 90 or 140 weight oil for either.
