1066 rear tire not running straight

Going down the road I can watch the right rear and you can see it going from side to side about an inch and a half. Causes rocking in high 3rd or 4th. I know all the wheel bolts are tight and axle clamp is too. What I don't know is if the tire is that much out of round(side to side) or whether the wheel is bent or maybe wheel is not bolted on straight. I'm hoping it is the latter as maybe that is an easy fix. Can I jack up that side and block and run to check and can the wheel bolts be loosened and retightened to adjust.

Yes jack it up ,but you don't have to run it. Lay a block or something on the ground beside the tire and spin it by hand. You will be able to see if the rim is tighten un even to the hub by how much it moves away and toward that block on the ground.

The wedges can be tighten uneven and cause the wobble. Both up and down and side to side.

You should have two wedge clamps that are a little different, they do not have the bevel on the inside end. Those two should be installed and tightened first. They need to be positioned at 10 and 2. They will locate the rim correctly on the wheel. Then install and tighten the rest of the clamps evenly, rotating the tire to make sure that it is staying centered.

Michael, they may be tight but the lugs/wedges were tightened unevenly.

I was pretty small when my dad and uncle changed the rims on the 1066 and 856, but I remember they put a short 2x4 on a barrel to act as a "runout gauge" about 1/2" from the rim. They rolled the wheel around, tightening and loosening the wedges, while watching the gap between the gauge. Once the gap was even, they were done.

our 966 had a wobble in the right rear wheel. look at the key way on the hub. ours was wearing some. it wasn't nice and tight. we put in some hack saw blades to help fill in the gap. that helped some. finally just went a buy a used one that was worn and that fixed the problem.

hth

good luck!
