I have an emergency. My M now has 180 psi of compresssion however my spark plugs are to hot and it aint running right. I have electronic ignition but I need to know what plug will run cold enough.

i have a pulling m with 350# compression and i us autolite 3116 just like i do in all the normal compression ih gas tractors that we use.

your supplier should know what you need if you give him the plug # you have now. the thicker the electrode the cooler the plug.

The counterman at the local auto parts store called Autolite for me to find out what was the correct sparkplug to be using in my SMTA & SMs. I had been running Autolite 386s since switching from Chanpions but still had some fouling issues. The Autolite rep said that the 3116 was the correct plug to be using in the IH 4 cylinder engines used in the letter series with today's gasoline. He recomended the 386s in the 6 cylinder engines such as 560 / 656/ 706. etc.

Today I put Autolite 386 plugs in it, Petronics Electronic ignition, New Wires, 45,000 volt coil, and I have 93 octane in it. What it is doing is that if I start it cold and dyno it the horsepower goes right up above 60 and then tapers off in about 30 seconds and the hotter the engine gets the worse it runs. 180 psi of comnpression is a new thing for me. We used to run a WC Allis with 170 psi on 93 octane just fine. When I dyno the M she starts out storng and then just starts missing and carrying on. I have tried a different carb. I have tried a different manifold. Manifold is sealed properly. The distributor is nice and tight. The valves are set at .020. I just ground the valves and lapped them properly. Valve guides are nice and tight. The darn thing will start without choking it when it is cold. Runs great until I work it on the dyno. I really need help on this.
