TD-6 Injection pump

It appears I'm getting diesel fuel in my engine oil. Would this be coming only from the seal on the pump drive shaft or is there somewhere else in the pump that would cause this. How big of a project is this (outside of removing the pump from the engine)? Also the injection pump fuel pressure is barely on the "run" area, even with new fuel filters. Any ideas on these things? Thanks

yes the only way it could leak fuel directly into the crank case is via the seal/gasket that mounts to the timeing cover. as for the low fuel pressure thats caused by the 'lift pumps' getting tired. the little pump that is on the back of the main pump. i would try a new gauge on it before i went and got it rebuit. 35-40 lbs is what you are looking for.

Thanks Andrew. I do have a new pressure gauge on it. Wasn't sure about the lift pump. Is that external on the injection pump or internal? Guess I didn't think about the gasket between the timing cover and the injection pump. Maybe I'll take the timing cover off and see if I can find any indication of the gasket leaking there.

As stated, the lift pump is that lump on the rear end of the main pump. The part where the fuel lines attach. There is a little seal in there that gives way over time. If your pump is old enough to NOT have an "A" or "IH" cast in big letters, you will have to make the packing gland for the lift pump shaft.

BTW, 35 to 40 psi is typical, and usable, but 58 to 65 is the spec. Low pressure limits upper end power a bit but not bad. Besides end plate wear, the control spring just gets tired after a while. Just about every pump I have has showed up in that condition.
