McCormick-Deering 10-20, what year is it?

This is another member of this forum that has acquired a family 10-20. He will take control of this thread after I post his pictures. He doesn't find any evidence of a serial number tag. I was told at a recent show that the little knob on top of the shifter was on very early tractors. This knob is not on my 1925, 26 or 27.

Here is ready to start restoring it and get it going.

I have a parts 27 or 8 10-20 that has the little knob on it. It also has a lip for attaching a rubber or leather boot at the bottom of the shifter. The serial number can be found on the lower front left side of the engine stamped on a flat boss. That is if the engine was never changed. This one has the 29 and up manifold on it. A 29 and newer will also have an oil filter.

Kelly will chime in here soon but he told me that his doesn't have an oil filter. My 27 does not have the knob on the shifter.

crawl under the tractor and look up under the flywheel and you will see the day, month and year stamped on the housing.

Thanks to Dave for posting the pictures and question (I couldn"t do it.) Thanks to Bob Kerr, I found the number on the engine and now believe I have a 1926. Also thanks to RustRed, as I"ll climb under it as soon as I can raise it a bit. Right now there are no tires on the front and its really, really low. Thanks all! kelly

She's a 29 or newer by the manifold. My 29 has an oil filter and had the variable speed governor that I swaped back to the older style

My father had a '29 that I drove for 10 years or so, and it did not have an oil filter. I think that was added sometime during the 1929 production year, but can't prove it.
Very early models had the governor with all the controls to the carb outside and visible. I believe the style shown in these pix (everything enclosd) came in at least by 1927, maybe in '26. Maybe a parts book + serial number would tell.
