Hello. I am going to have my brother-in-law paint my Farmall M. He ask me what the correct paint color was. So, here I am asking you guys. I think that he said PPG Paint if possible. We live out in Southern Calif so some paint it hard to get or impossible because of the enviromental rules. THANKS ALL

Prior to mid 1949, IH 50/PPG 70019/DuPont 7410, and others. Mid 1949 or later, IH 1102B, I don't think there is a PPG or DuPont number, ask your supplier--CaseIH does not sell it. That leaves IH 2150/PPG 71310/DuPont 96766 which appeared in 1961, which is what "most" people use.

I used PPG's paint code 71310 on this tiller in 2006. Hal
PS: Make sure your brother-in-law uses a supplied air system when spraying this paint.

To complicate the issue, in Guy's books doesn't it talk about the tractors getting painted with different paint during the war bc of wartime shortages?

Guy says it was caused by strikes in the coal and chemical industries, not a wartime shortage. Authorization of the tinted paint was from 12/11/45-4/11/47. Thus there were a lot of orange tractors. He also said that attachments painted before or after might be different from the tractor color. I saw some of those tractors, particularly after they faded, but didn't realized it lasted that long.
