this W-6 ive got,
well its been sitting for about 2 yrs, I was gona put a straight ppipe on it, but a friend of mine said dont do that as it';ll suck too much cold air into the intake and it might suck a valve,

The one problem with straight pipes is cool air rushing in after the engine is turned off.
If you use a straight pipe cover the top of it with something when you shut down the engine.
This will keep heat in.
Let's the head cool slowly.

If you have ever been to a drag strip you will see the crew plug the headers on the engine as soon as the run is over.

There's plenty of people out there that have & do use straight pipes on their tractors. Seen a few with no pipe, too. I haven't heard of a problem with valves. I have heard you can crack internal components on an engine when theres a crack in the manifold. They cool too fast, I guess. Always heard that about cars but not tractors, though. - Mike

I wouldn't worry too much about it,unless you are going to pull the bejabbers out of it, kill it dead and walk away you should have no problems, let cool off a while before you shut it off and enjoy. We have had M's a W6 and 450;s for years and ran them to there limit with mufflers straight pipes and no mufflers and they never had any problems. We usually had an IH muffler, after a day or two of plowing with a straight pipe the fun wore off, and a little edge off the blast was nice.
